UNESCO International Day of Mathematics
For the first time this year we took part in the UNESCO International Day of Mathematics (otherwise known as 𝝅 day). All children took part in this in some form from Nursery right through to Year 6. This year the theme was ‘playing with Maths’. We celebrated mathematical games, puzzles and other entertaining activities, but also "playing" with mathematics itself, exploring, experimenting, and discovering. The purpose of this day is to celebrate the subject and its potential as a tool for solving real world problems and improving people’s lives. It also linked nicely with our efforts to become a UN Global Partnership School and our participation in this was used as part of our successful application
Welcome to the British International School of Brussels, where a warm, nurturing environment awaits your child! If you’re looking for a small school setting with cozy classrooms and supportive staff, you’ve found the right place. Our dedicated team of empowering educators is committed to providing a rich and engaging environment in which every child can truly flourish.
At BISB, we believe that every child deserves to be known and cared for. Our close-knit community allows us to build strong relationships with our students, and our parents appreciate the personalized attention their children receive. We know that a successful education is built on strong partnerships between school and home, and we value open, effective communication. Whether through daily chats, weekly photo updates on our school app, or our engaging Parent Workshops, we ensure that families are always informed and involved.
I am especially proud of our programs and curricula, which focus on developing the whole child—academically, socially, and emotionally. We aim to foster a deep sense of connection to both local and global communities. As a United Nations Global School, we emphasize the importance of sustainability and equip our students with the knowledge and skills to live responsibly now and into the future.
Here at BISB, we are large enough to offer diverse and engaging experiences, yet small enough to ensure that every student feels truly cared for. We look forward to partnering with you in your child's learning journey!
Warm regards,
Dr. Kari Doyle

Reading Assessment June 2024
We use PiRA tests, to monitor children’s progress in reading. PiRA assesses a pupil’s reading in accordance with the National Curriculum for England, which is the framework for our literacy curriculum. Our PiRA results consistently show children reading at above the expected level for a typical child in the UK, and making greater progress across a year and across the school than would be expected for a typical child.
